Police believe that shortly before the incident, a group of people was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a baseball bat. After a short conversation, one of the men began assaulting an 18-year-old woman.

When a 48-year-old man attempted to intervene, he was beaten in the upper body with the bat. He remains in hospital in critical condition.

The young woman was treated and released from hospital.

Police found several suspects nearby and took them into custody. The investigation is ongoing and charges have not yet been laid.

Dufferin avenue again. I don't know why people even go near there. This is the type of the crime we should be focused on. Wasting resources on prohibition while this is going on is stupid.

I'm glad she's okay, and I hope she gets out of that neighbourhood.

End funding for the arts as well. Waist of resources there as well, right?

Turns out the man was the father of the 18 yr. old girl who was assaulted. She wasn't even the person the assholes with the bats were originally targetting. The father is clinging to life. I think that many of the violent crimes commited by youths go too far because they know they can get away with murder. These littkle shits were out to hurt/kill someone and anyone who got in their way.

What I don't get is why didn't this "group" use their numbers against these two little fuck tards and use the bat to break the kids kneecaps?

I believe this stuff is gang initiation idiocy.

Same neighbourhood almost a year ago:
'Random' Winnipeg shootings kill two, injure one
Winnipeg police were combing a residential neighbourhood Sunday, searching for a suspect who shot two men and a teenage girl in what investigators believe were random shootings.
    ...
In the wake of the shootings, police were warning people living in the neighbourhood, a low-income area which has been plagued by drugs and gang violence in the past, not to open their doors to unexpected visitors and not to investigate if they hear something suspicious outside.

Same neighbourhood a few months ago:
"Random" shooting sends grandmother to hospital
Police are still looking for a gunman after a 43-year-old grandmother was shot in broad daylight in Winnipeg's North End, shaking the neighborhood and prompting residents to call for help.

No, start with in prohibition (since it is a of the same resources), corporate tax cuts, or subsidies to oil companies first please.

Exactly, because gang violence is directly associated with The Man.

What are you on about? Prohibition is a waste of law enforcement resources. It also encourages gangsterism. Let me know if your having trouble with any of the big words.

Yet you sway into your interminable whinefest so you can prevaricate on the connections of corporations and tax subsidies to life in the shitty parts of the dump you live in.

Let me know if you need a further intervention in order for you to stop being a sobbing retard.

You swayed first. Care to explain how funding for the arts is tied to gang violence?

Other than if there was more of it, these kids might have had something more constructive to do?

A snotty quip to your lamentable desire to harp constantly on the need to legalize drugs.

    We get it already.

Forgive me, but I'm relieved to see that the man was beaten by teenagers. Looking at the headline I guess I expected to find out that the man was beaten by cops.
