If the roles were reversed I am left to wonder if Layton would've done the same for Harper?

I kind of doubt it Bart, but I'm not sure it would have been out of spite, or that Harper would've been bothered by it. I think that the grand public spectacle of a state funeral is very much on keeping with who Jack layton was and what he would've wanted. Harper strikes me as someone who would prefer a small ceremony with just his friends and family in attendance.

This is one instance where I don't neccesarily think one is better than the other, their just different.

I'm curious as to the motivation of this question. Is it a query on the personality types and what kind of public or private send off they prefer or is it yet another example of your interminable cynical existence you feel compelled to inflict upon us?

Unsound answered my question in exactly the vein it was asked, but I understand how the question could be seen otherwise so no offense is taken.

We Yanks are impressed with how this is being handled by our northern friends and neighbours. It is being handled with a great of dignity and class.
