a Chinese company with links to China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) bought the Varyag claiming it wanted to turn it into a floating casino in Macau

    ok, so they lied.

However, Beijing has recently sought to downplay the capabilities of the carrier, saying it would be used for training and research.

anyone want to beleive this one ?

    She'll be operational next year.

Hopefully it was contructed with the same quality control as they use with their manufactured goods that they export in which as it will fall apart shortly.

Just another world problem, China rearming. They could stay with a modest force and their atomic bomb plus their role in the world economy. Now we have to worry about some adventure by a Chinese leader.

Picture how many ways the US Navy and USAF will be studying on how to make this Carrier an underwater marine habitat.

Ya, they'll park their ship just off the coast and laugh while you try to raise the money to do something about it. Seems like the makings of a good telethon!

FOX Commentator: "As you can tell we've got some Chinese warships parked off the coast of California. Dial 1-900 sink-that-ship to donate money so we can afford to defend ourselves!"

More likely the FOX commentator will ask if there's anyone out there who has the necessary kit to take out a low-tech carrier.

All of the above are privately owned.

LOL ! Now that was funny.

BTW do the Chinese have any aircraft for this Aircraft carrier. From the pic it looks like its made for VTOL type jets, similar to what the british have with that ramp on the runway for the Harriers.

Lol awsome Bart - you are probably correct you'll have all sorts of people testing the defences of that unit. I wonder if you need a license for that cannon?
