A group that believes all Canadians should have the right to end their own lives will argue its case at the B.C. Supreme Court this week after the province refused to allow the group to incorporate as a non-profit business.

I sure hope logic prevails here.

People should be able to choose how and when to end their own lives. If a doctor can prove that they aren't mentally ill and it can be proven that it isn't being done under duress (say for the finacial gain of unscrupulous family)

People are able to choose how and when to end their own lives. That's not the problem. The problem is that they need others to help them, and that would be murder.

That said, I have no problems with euthanasia (or assisted suicide, whatever you want to call it) under strict conditions. Those conditions include reports from at least 2 physicians, stating the "state" the patient is in, the estimated time they have to live still, the assumed "joy of life" they will have during those last days, the suffering they are enduring etc etc. It should be performed by a doctor, who will be backed by those reports. It also should be the patients choice.

Assisted suicide is a last resort, and not for the "depressed", or "confined to a wheelchair and I can't deal with that". Too bad, kill yourself and if you can't, don't make someone else murder you.
