Claiming your in danger to get citizenship into Canada?

1800 isnt enough, will cost a bundle anyway.

I can hear the lawyers rubbing their hands, and the PC
lefty crowd warming up the howling machines.

The whining will reach unheard of levels. :)

Canada isn't the only country afflicted with this problem. We have similar "endangered" immigrants here too.

Yep, that's the FIRST thing that came to my mind as well.

So then they are not citizens anymore but Permanent Residents. What exactly is the "cost" they cost the taxpayer?
Don't ya think ya made a little mistake when you gave them their citizenship???

Naturalized Canadians - those born in another country but who immigrate here and become citizens - can have their citizenship revoked if convicted of fraud in relation to their citizenship application or if their original admission to Canada as an immigrant was completed using fraudulent documents. Immigrants who knowingly conceal material circumstances in connection with their entry into Canada also risk revocation of citizenship.

If they committed fraud to come here as an immigrant they don't legally have pr status either. Stripping them of citizenship would be the first step to stripping them of the right to live here.

    I get that.
But the story is claiming that those "phony Canadians" are sooooo expensive for taxpayers. I call bullshit.
What exactly makes them so costly? I'm thinking this whole exercise makes it all so costly.
Maybe if Immigration and Naturalization would do a better job, you won't have this problem. Those people are not costly. They fact they weren't caught when they applied is what it makes costly. You tell me, who is responsible here?

Brenda is right. Canada dropped the ball here by doing crappy checks. It's nothing new though. The IRB is a disgrace, our refugee policy is a joke and we take in far too many immigrants who can't communicate in either English or French.

We have the pick of the world, why are we taking in people who can't speak one of our official languages?

"These people are costing taxpayers a lot of money," said a senior government official who had knowledge of the investigation. "And they are undermining public support for immigration. We don't want to allow fraud like this."
The second part of the quote is certainly true. As we know, on average an immigrant costs this country $6500 a year. If many of these guys are on welfare because they used phony qualifications to immigrate then they would be costing us much more. If they hid a criminal past to get pr or citizenship then that costs us plenty.

Totally agree that Immigration and Naturalization needs to be a better job. That means better funding for them, and a push from the govt to be much stricter in who they let in.

So sure, the govt is "responsible" here, as long as you don't take that to mean they shouldn't proceed with this because the fraudsters bear no responsibility for what they did.

I'm sorry, but I haven't cost Canada shit. I brought money. So do most immigrants. It is a requirement, remember? So seriously, I call total bullshit.

Unless of course you mean that the average RESIDENT costs the taxpayer $6500 on average? Then I agree with you.

You always make this about you. You're one of millions. On average cost the govt $6500 a year each because of their lower earnings compared to native born Canadians (or immigrants who came here before the 1980's). But those that scam to get in here and then live on welfare cost it even more. Those that hide their criminal past also cost us.

"Refugees" aren't required to bring cash AFAIK.
