He’s back. After two years of deliberately staying out of the limelight, working quietly in his riding and expressing his views privately to leader Michael Ignatieff, Stéphane Dion has a new bounce in his step.
Good. He's a solid, reasonable, thoughtful voice. Didn't have the right cut to his jib to lead, but he's done a lot of good things, including being a primary factor in defeating separatists in Quebec.

I can actually agree with this. Dion seems to be a "nice guy" and is probably a very smart man, but he was WAAAAY out of his depth as a leader.
I think he's a very good asset for the Libs, I also always got the impression that he was a very reasonable and intelligent person. This is the kind of guy the Libs need more of to back a solid leader who can actually articulate policy. A leader he, sadly was not.
True. Hopefully the NDP goofing around with the meaning of the Clarity Act in order to placate their Quebec caucus has gotten Dion fired up for another round.
Dion does seem to be the embodiment of the peter principle. Hopefully he is aware of that and is content to remain a competant and effective MP rather than trying for leadership again.

Yeah, I can agree with that.
For the Liberals to rebound in the next election, they need a number of strong candidates to support whoever is leader. Without that base, they'll get destroyed once again.
Still, I wasn't a huge fan of Dion's platform being almost entirely about the environment (it's important, but so is the economy, health care, defence, etc), and that's why I didn't vote for his party in 2008. Hopefully his input won't shift the Liberals to a pseudo-Green party.
again and again.

Go tell that to the NDP.

Why's that, Jack just keeps staying on. Getting more popular all the time.
