The government of Canada intends to cut its participation in a NATO air surveillance program, CBC News has learned.

    Might make sense if we had our own AWACS... we don't.

    I don't think it would make sense even then. In NATO, the costs are at least spread out among all member nations.

    What I meant was if we already had (read: paying for) our own AWACS, why pony out more cash for communal NATO planes?

    I'm pretty sure that Canada has no AWACS capability, so pulling out of this is really just a los for us and giving us another (albeit loaned) aerial capability.
