The parents of a toddler who died during a house fire near Hope, B.C. earlier this month had left him alone at home to do a drug deal, according to neighbours who gave a statement to police.

After police told the parents that Dillion had died, they were "hysterical and upset," and left to stay with friends.

Left to stay with friends? WTF?

What do you want them to do, sleep in the burned out house?

Wonder if this will change their lifestyle? Just a couple of losers who shouldn't have kids in the first place.

I'd rather have them sleeping in a cell for at least a few nights.

Sorry for your loss, off you go... That's no way to deal with this kind of neglect.

They're being investigated and I would guess will be charged. It's not the kind of crime you need to keep them in jail for while that's being done. Remember that it's a rumor that they were dealing drugs. Until the police have enough evidence, you want them thrown in jail without charges?

    Not for drugs.

Dillon Walker, 18 months old, was found dead in his crib after a fire ripped through his family home in Silver Creek, just west of Hope, in the early hours of May 5.
    ...
Walker told police their natural gas had been shut down two days earlier so they had been heating the home using an oil heater, two other small heaters and the oven.

An officer at the scene testified hearing Walker yell: "We just went for a walk. Our gas was shut off. We use the stove for heat."
    ...
In an audio transcription included in the warrant, a firefighter described finding the body of a young child face down on a single or double mattress. The dead toddler "appeared charred but not down to the bone."

Police said the firefighter believed the boy had no signs of life.

"He did not check the child's pulse but it was not crying or moving. The injury was severe enough; no one could have survived. He was certain the child was dead."

The saddest part of this case is, because it was their own child that died, they'll get a minimal sentence.

Hope for a lengthy drug charge sentence. That'll be the only justice served here.

To leave a baby alone to do a drug deal. Incredible. What is wrong with people.

When I first read about this, I was going... "don't we all need some fresh air some times and leave our kids in their cribs? I'm so sorry..."
Then I read it was for over half an hour. THAT is too long.
Then I read "drugs deal". That made my stomach turn. Poor little kid. Didn't have a chance before his life even started...

Well, this illustrates the parents priorities.

I have a 12 month old baby boy and he is never left alone for any reason. This is a prime example as to why people should have a licence to procreate.

Society really has no right to make up a bunch of stupid laws that get in the way of anyone having a good time. As for that kid? Well, his mere existence shouldn't have interfered with his parents' right to thoroughly enjoy a lifelong drug-fueled party. This is clearly the fault of everyone except the parents and any of the lifestyle decisions that they obviously had a total right to make for themselves.

That firefighter who found the kid should also have to pay for his own PTSD counselling too. Not on my dime, buddy!

WTF!!! You leave an 18 month old in a house by themselves!!!! What the fuck is wrong with people!!! I dont give a shit if someone is dealing or going for a stroll....it is completely negligant. Which in turns to abandonment, negligence resulting in death charges.
