Philippine city holds mass circumcision for youths

MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of boys in a Philippine city turned out Saturday for a daylong "circumcision party" to provide a safe, free procedure for a rite of passage that most local males undergo as preteens.

    Since some of them have themselves nailed to crosses during Easter, this is no big deal. Most tribal societies that practice circumcision did so at puberty, rite of manhood. And of course they didn't have scalpels.

    But it's a barbaric practice that should be outlawed.

    If for religious reasons you don't agree with circumcision, here are a few alternate activities to consider.
