You can even call this a big FU to the Canadian political system.
I voted for Krista Lalonde just for the heck of it, Exactly the same type of candidate, Montreal anglo who barely speak french and that know about Québec regions because one summer she went on a trip.
Refresh/educate my memory. Isn't it a requirement of any candidate to, when filing their nomination papers to also include a list of 100 signatures of residents of their intended riding? Also, was a story in the news the other day of one fellow whose name was on that list, claiming that in "no way" had he signed " any such list"!
She didn't lie to get elected and didn't in fact expect to win. The people have spoken. It's great that the Bloc was held in such contempt that a candidate like this can win. Now it's up to her if she wants to take this seriously (she says she does) and what the people think of her efforts next election. And she doesn't owe any political favors, isn't part of the political system, so who knows, maybe she'll be a breath of fresh air.
I guess, where my confusion comes in, is if she/any candidate is required to submit 100 signatures of residents of the riding, since she has never set foot in the riding, how exactly was she able to pull this off, and be 'cleared of any irregularities'? Also quite possible is that I could just be mis-informed about the process!

You are. She doesn't have to gather those signatures herself.
She was cleared because Elections Canada accepts those signatures, so if the CPC and Libs want to contest her election now they have to go to court. But she is now the confirmed MP and I guess starts drawing her 157,000 salary plus expenses.

I don't believe the candidate has to collect the signatures. Party Volunteers can. They can also be the signatures.
I realize she isa protest vote, man what a protest.
The NDP apparently does care for what she says as long as she says it nicely in French.
As long as she says things like "I have to go to Los Vagas they have such cool parties and that snow is so icky" in perfect French they will be happy.
I don't think that Mr Harper will be challenged too much be this twit.

Anyway Louis Plamondon won it by a 1000 vote.
"It was planned before [the election], but it was just kind of bad timing," she said.
Oh lordy.
Wow. How bad is this!? Funny!
To many on here, it's not bad at all.
What a joke this is.

Oddly yes. For some, this is alright and above reproach lest you be labeled a partisan hack.
Oh well. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
