People living in some of the world's happiest countries — including Canada — are disproportionately more likely to commit suicide.

So people living in Zimbabwe, North Korea and a few other less than happy places in the world or more mentally are more mentally stable?

No, GT, the theory is that the ignorant are blissful. The hypothesis here is that envy is the cause of suicide and when everyone's piss-poor, there's no envy.

Maybe... just maybe... people in happy countries aren't as happy as they say they are. :?

I somehow don't think it's just envy, how about the researchers including lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, and of course pride or in short the seven deadly sins that contribute to, but, not cause suicide.

With all that being said they may have a point about the happy bullshit, especially since most suicides happen at Christmas, a season that tends to alienate alot of society. 8O

    Misery loves company.

I guess that in un-happy countries, they have no problems finding others to share that misery.

Conversely, those who whine about how they are oppressed make others around them homicidal.
