After spotting a truck packed with hundreds of whimpering dogs on a Beijing highway, a man put out a call on a microblogging site, begging fellow animal lovers to help him force the driver to release the animals.

So instead of being killed and eaten, these dogs get a few days reprieve and will be euthanized by the China Animal Protection Association.

    Good work, activists!!!

The "Problem" for us in North America and western Europe dogs are man's best friend we don't extend the privilege to cows, pigs (yes double standards I know).

My dog is sitting 3 feet from me and to my Yankee politically incorrect self I like the story.

I understand that, but it is not our country. We are bitching at PETA and at everyone who brings up the seal hunt. Who the hell are we to say the Chinese can't eat dogs?

    Why?

    They'll end up dead anyways.
But now the meat will be lost.

Even in North America, GT, a lot of dogs and cats are euthanized every year.
Doesn't make much difference for me whether they're just killed, or killed and eaten. I wouldn't eat them but I have nothing against those that would.

I know what you mean though. I love horse meat but I'm sure I could NEVER raise a horse for it's meat. :(

Or a cow, pig, chicken or anything, for that matter. That's why I buy it in the store...
