Engines not included in Canada's $29B fighter jet deal

The multimillion-dollar F-35 stealth fighter the Conservatives want to purchase comes with all the accoutrements of a high-tech aircraft — everything except an engine.

Is it typical for aircraft purchases to include the engines?

I think they have this one wrong.

Harper is sticking with his original numbers, and claims we can buy these things cheaper than anybody else on the planet. Including the engine and missiles.

Harper says F-35s won't cost more
But the Conservative Leader is promising Canadians that this country has a special deal with the United States that insulates it from the F-35 Lightning’s spiraling costs.

Of course the contempt ruling was partially about having lied about this.

The Defence Department documents, which outline answers to questions about the F-35, also note that the stealth fighter could be used, in a secondary role, for search and rescue.

Yeah... add this to the list. Good thinking going into defending this good deal.

Try again. This post makes no sense.

    Hypocrisy? Where?
    Corruption? Where?
    Fighter jets costing billions? Really?

The sun is hot too, eh.

Ok, this is a game changer for me. I guess I didn't see the red flags come up.
This tells me that the F35 is not a true stealth aircraft. Engines play a vital roll in stealth technology. Have a look at the engines on the F22, the only true stealth fighter on the planet. The Americans won't sell the F22, to anyone, this is a red flag in itself. This F35 deal wreaks of warranty issues and court battles.

Scrap this deal and buy the super hornet, or build our own.

I guess I need to draw you a picture.

Huge No bid contract for a plane that is not even in production, that the technical detail are still unknown, That the final cost are still unknown.

Why would an honest politician take such huge risk with the public money???? Are we under attack by a foreign superpower??? No The risk is to great I do not believe this is legit. And I do not believe the Government of Canada is of good faith.

Hypocrisy yes, this story is treated by the canadian media like an after thought.

Just to put this story in perspective the sponsorship scandal involve 50 million dollars. this is in the Billion$ but hey I guess it's no big deal!

Yeah, but Tamara Lorincz is a left winger with an anti-military bias, or maybe an anti-military with a left wing bias, can never keep that straight. So you can't take anything she says at face value. Not like the honest and true people in DND and the Harper govt, who would never lie.

Yeah, but they weren't her documents.

The government will be required to provide them for the 65 planes to be delivered by U.S. manufacturer Lockheed Martin, according to newly released Defence Department documents.

    They're from the left-wing anti-military Defense Department.

Are you talking about the F-35 or the federal transfer payments to Quebec?

For the last time, NO MORE DUCEPPE PORTRAITS 8O

But anyways....as much as I lauded these new F-35's as the best replacement for our CF-18's, I'm beginning to think that we could get double the number of planes if we used the money on Super Hornets instead. At least we already have Hornet parts and the pilots wouldn't need much (if any) additional training.
