A Liberal purchase. Spend money on shit then more money to get it operational. When its all finished it's obsolete. How about replacing the CF18 with the CF5 that was sold years ago.

The submarines have had their problems which have been in the newspapers. They're custom jobs for the Brits, built in very limited numbers, and there's no maintenance infrastructure. The military know about these things. I suspect they are almost useless.

Pretty much. I hold the liberals to account for not maintaining the docks then the sub program. That being said, even if the hulls were worth it, we had to gut these things to get them up to speed. That was still cheaper then starting our own sub program like the Auzzies did, poor basturds.

I don't have good information but I know there's German, Italian and British submarines. All built in small numbers, custom jobs - for the job creation and export sale. Hopefully NATO procurement will improve with time.

The CF-5 (CF-116 in CF parlance) were never sold - they are in storage at CFB Meadowview.

Who do you think built the Victoria SSKs?

It was a major blunder buying subs that had sat untended for years, but when operational, they have proven effective. As Scape said, we could have done what Australia did and spent billions for a marginally effective submarine.

And we could have bought German, Italian or even French subs, but many of their subs are smaller than the CF wants and they would have been built overseas and shipped to us, so we would have gained nothing in the way of expertise, trade or jobs.

Side note. CFD Mountain View vice CFB Meadowview.

I do believe some aircraft were sold to Venezuela, after a being modified. The remaining airframes were put into storage at CFB Mountainview
