What century are MarCom and NDHQ living in? The cold war is over and the importance of the Atlantic went with it. The Pacific is now the Ocean of concern and if anything they should be moving more control of the Pacific Fleet out here and not the reverse.

If they want to save money, why don't they move Marcom along with a few more ships to Esquimalt and control the Navy out of there?

Or, since they claim the Navy can be run from anywhere in Canada, why don't they move Naval Headquarters, Marcom, Marlant and Marpac to Swift Current and see how well it works out for them.

At least you'd stop the coastal fighting for resources and bragging rights.

I was going to say this smacks of politics, but then as we all know, Canadian Naval Officers have never meddled in anything political. ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

It's a political payoff for someone in Halifax. Pure and simple.

If they want to save money, why don't they get rid of MARCOM and MARLANT and centralize command of the Navy with MARCOM in Ottawa? Oh right, that would mean they might have to reduce the number of naval officers, and we wouldn't want that!!
Supposedly they can control ships from anywhere, why does it have to be Halifax?

For those that didn't know, there are actually three navies in Canada: West Coast, East Coast and Disneyland on the Rideau.

It's nice to see that nothing changed after I retired.

But it's like I said. Swift Current's looking for a Military presence and as a bonus it's near water.

    Speedy Creek.

So, given the location it'd be an ideal place for a new Naval Headquarters plus the Weirdroom could still hold their regatta's and sailpasts when they changed command. It'd just be on a smaller scale. 8O

The only problem I can see is how do we move Momma Cammiles and Joe Comeau's to Central Avenue without a cost overrun?

I'd like to find the goof that thought this one up. Likely some Admiral who owns a nice home and property out in the Valley who's decided he doesn't want to sell and move.

Unfortunately Momma Camilles closed and Joe Comeaus (The North End Pub) burned dowd a few years ago. I think both are now condos.

Except that right now Canada is fighting a war in the Mediterranean Sea, and not fighting anyone in the Pacific.

Which sadly, is bigger than the navy's and they can actually submerge.
But if an invading fleeet ever attacks Edmonton, at least we're prepared.
