Led by Canadian Lt.-Gen. Charles Bouchard, NATO is taking control of aerial operations in Libya, as it launches strikes against Moammar Gadhafi's forces and maintains the UN-authorized no-fly zone.

Recently, the UN and NATO have decided to lend a helping hand to the people in Libya to get rid of the government! What does this mean for Libya? What does this mean for the UN? As well, NATO was created as a force against the Soviet Union, why does it still exist? Seems to me like almost all the western powers of the world have joined NATO and now use this organization to administer their power where they please. Of course without the inclusion of Russia, the country that NATO was at first created to fight against. Will NATO (the western powers of the world) finally get rid of Gaddafi? You would think being as powerful as they are that together they would almost be impossible to stop. I guess time will soon tell. Maybe time will also show who is more powerful, the UN or NATO?

NATO is the most powerful military alliance the world has ever seen. You ask "why does it exist?", while I ask "Why disband it?".

NATO's mission is not to get rid of Gaddafi. The objective of Operation Unified Protector is to enforce an arms embargo and the no fly zone.

If the alliance wanted Gaddafi dead, he would be.

The alliance want him gone, maybe not dead, but if that happened they wouldnt be upset. While the selling point was protecting civilians the goal is regime change, something the Arab League is not comfortable with. I dont know why you even mentioned the UN since all you talked about was NATO. :?
