Two Canadian CF-18 fighter jets took part in a mission over Libya on Tuesday morning, but returned to base without attacking their target, having determined the risk of collateral damage was too great. ... He said the risk was not related to a threat against the CF-18s, but rather potential damage to civilians or important infrastructure such as hospitals, on the ground.
Lawson said the decision was in compliance with the rules of engagement that NATO forces have been given, and proves "the system works."

I'm glad our boys spared civilian deaths and/or damage to important infrastructure. Our forces are a class act.
However, I hope the next piece of news about our flyboys is that they splashed an enemy convoy or airstrip or something. Let's get us some!
Really CP, you should refrain from such uneducated and bellicose comments. Why don't you sign up and 'get some' of your own.
I tried to sign up many years back. The problem was that two years before I looked into this elistment, I wrecked both knees and had surgery to one. They didn't want me due to the injuries. I don't blame them. It's not uncommon for my knee to give out and collapse randomly and I fall down. Mind you, it doesn't happen too often, but when it does....owwwww.
ROFL CP Nice attitude. If you don't normally watch CBC's The National; They shocked the heck out of me tonight by sharing the story with us including one of the pilots... discussing the Canadian Way.
They are notorious for not giving us the true stories of OUR military missions.
Good on them, hopefully things like this will help out with PR. Not just for Canada but any other country taking part of this mission, between the mid-east and the west. I don't imagine our constant involvement in the mid-east is too pleasing to most there. Despite being necessary.

How is our involvement in this necessary? If Yemen flares up are we going to go there as well?
Internet warriors GF. Bred on COD and think war is a game on their X-Box.
Funny how all the guys who have spent time in combat are not seeing this as a good thing and how those who haven't do and want to 'splash a convoy' or some other cabbagey quote. Even andy is for this one, Mr anti-establishment himself!

Very strange.
As I've tried to make clear to you, I'm very ambivalent about it. I've heard good arguments pro and con. I'm certainly against it if it turns into some long drawn out thing and/or we try to put troops on the ground to manage the country. But seems to me giving the rebels a bit of a boost could have positive outcomes in term of changing the dynamics of the ME. I admit tho, Guy_Fawkes brought me up short when he reminded me that there is no guarantee that any new govt in Libya will be more democratic than the present one. Guess that's my anti-establishment blind spot coming out, where I assumed the people getting rid of a dictator would be a positive thing.
But you Mr. Black or White, I take my orders from Parliament. Now that Parliament has voted for this mission, I guess you support it 100% and no more forming opinions on your own?

I watched Gen Lawson's speech. No mention of NATO, bad reporting as usual.

Better yet, let's just hope the job gets done with a minimum of bloodshed.
