The Canadian military is warming to the controversial idea of employing militia-like groups in the Kandahar district of Panjwaii, a tactic credited with stemming violence during the Iraq war but criticized over concerns of insurgent infiltration.

While there are some plus sides to this that I can see, one being is getting a boost to security in places that may be lacking which puts on the pressure against the Taliban.

It also may spark more Taliban hatred the more the locals have to fight them and perhaps drew less Taliban support from those who support them.

However there are so many more ways this just could go horribly wrong and become a huge clusterfuck. That in the sense of arming civilians and giving them 3 weeks of training from the SF. The Taliban would so not try corrupt that, it would be like arming and training the Taliban. Making them stronger than just as we realize how much of a fuckup it is, we leave and let the other countries fix it for us. That would do great to our relations.
