That wine growth wasn't at the expense of other liquors, the study noted: spirits consumption grew over 7 per cent between 2005 and 2009.

I dreamt last night of going to Subway and when I got there I had to make my way through cases of Beer and Wine displays.

Which brings me to my point, it's time to nix the Liquor Board model IMO. Just allow Grocery/Convenience stores to sell Beer/Wine, keep higher Alc% beverages in specialty shops.

I have cut back, but mostly because I'm sulfite sensitive and it gives me headaches now. The wines I do consume are locally produced and sold outside the liquor board, so no added sulfites.

In California you can buy any kind of alcohol in any grocery store.

Ya, I know. Things have improved a lot here in BC, at least we have Beer and Wine stores now. Just 20 years ago there were only Government run Liquor Stores and those were widely spread out.

Nope. For some odd reason they won't allow you to buy . You have to drive to Nevada to buy that.

The study is surprising given our high prices-and doesn't bode well for price reductions in future.
