Manitoba is on track to increase immigration to the province this year despite pressure from Ottawa to cap the number of new Canadians calling Manitoba home

    number of people who immigrated to Manitoba in 1999: 3,702

    number of immigrants who came to Manitoba in 2009 and highest recorded since 1946: 13,520

    number of new permanent residents who have arrived here since the beginning of 2010: 15,000

    percentage of immigrant nominees who were working after three months: 85

    percentage who had full-time jobs: 89

    percentage who did not intend to leave the province: 95

    Percentage who reported having received social assistance since arriving here: 3

    number of immigrants Manitoba wants to attract by 2016: 20,000
