Maybe the Big O should listen to that supposedly sage advice the democrats used to give GWB.

Stay the fuck out of Middle Eastern Politics.

It didn't work out all that well for GWB and I somehow doubt that just because Barracks a Democrat it'll work out any better for him.

If the Egyptian people want Democracy, we should support them. If the Saudis want to support a Dictator, let them.

King Abdullah is just worried that he is next, and rightfully so. The party is over. The Middle East has been governed by outside powers and ruthless dictators long enough. Back in the day the strongman dictator could control the state run media. He could tell you what to think. The internet has changed everything. People want to be free. If enough of them are willing to die for their cause, it is almost impossible to prevent change. Is it going to be easy? No. Is there going to be a lot of problems ahead? Definitly. Will it affect us in North America? Oh yeah! The genie is out of the bottle, and he ain't going back in without a fight.

The problem with the ME(and by extension North Africa) is that often what replaces the old order is worse than what they had in the first place....imagine fundy Islamic theocracies popping up from the Himalayas to the Atlas mountains.

I've gone to bed with more comforting thoughts.

I don't think it'll go that far, because there are still too many bitter feelings between the Sunnis and the Shias.

That's why turning our backs to the Peoples wishes is a bad idea. If we isolate them it increases the chance they'll become radical.

80% of Egyptians agree with stoning for adultery. Did this come about because we turned our backs to them?

I dare say too many non-muslim Westerners would actively support such a thing.

Call me crazy but that might have something to do with the former tightasses who ran the country.
