The first few hundred Canadians will be able to flee the chaos in Egypt on Monday aboard two planes dispatched by Ottawa.
The planes will depart Cairo for evacuation points in Europe, said Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon in a statement issued
These flights will take them to locations in Europe such as London, Paris or Frankfurt. Canadian citizens are required to make their own onward travel plans from these locations," Cannon said in the statement.
They aint staying in my house.
wayyyyyyy too much plastic on those planes though.
Wow........for my vacation this past December we looked at going to Egypt or Tunisia or Morocco. The travel dates wouldn't work with my other travel plans for work so we just did the beach vacation.

Two down.......one to go.
Next week for Morocco.
On a brighter note, travel to Libya will become easier.
I can't believe that actual vacationers would have gone there in the past two weeks. How stupid are they? We have discussed how bad Mexico is on many threads, well Egypt has had it's Jihadi issues for DECADES, and that's not even contemplating the high crime that it suffers.
Every so often some loon with an AK opens up on a tourist bus but yet people still trot along and think it will be like Arizona with pyramids.
I was in Cairo in the late 1980's, it was a cesspit then and we were warned about going out alone.
Really, the most sensible thing Canada is doing is billing these people for the ride out.
People should be accountable for the choices they make. You decide to vacation or live in a Third World country tottering on a revolution, you pay for the aircraft we have to charter to rescue your sorry arse.

Oh believe me EB, I agree wholeheartedly, but we've seen how effective the gov't is when it comes to collecting from people that default on their sponsorships. Can't see the gov't busting their asses to collect from any of these people either.
True PA9. Thousands of 'sponsors' get away with having to pay welfare for the people they blag us into accepting.
It's better than the response from Ottawa when the whiny plastic-Canadian-Lebs complained that there was no a/c on the ships we chartered to get them from their homes and businesses in Beruit, 'back' to their 'homeland' in Canada that they hadn't been to in years.
The CBC's Nahlah Ayed reported from Cairo that Egyptian officials asked passengers to come up with a total of $2,000 US before the plane was allowed to leave.

They don't have a problem with Tamils showing up in canoes every couple of months So why not pay for true Canadians to get out of Egypt I think you might be being a tad generous using the term "true Canadians". I'll be amazed if 1 in 10 coming back here were actually born here and aren't just citizens of convenience.

Last week no one would say Egypt was unstable. This took everyone by surprise.

At least it's a start.

Typical third world monkey business.
