Gervais's Globes trash talk slammed

Ricky Gervais, host of the Golden Globes, has been roundly given the thumbs down on his performance, which was full of what many consider nasty quips about Scientology, homosexuality and many celebrities in the audience.

He was a smashing sucess because he got people talking about the globes but I doubt he will ever be invited back. Though to be honest I think that was his intent. Poked fun at the big wigs who are payed way too much to do what they do anyway. He was on conan talking about a hitler bit for the intro that got nixed:

Ricky definitely crosses the line at times. GF, you should check-out 'Made in England' filmed in NY. It's really funny (mostly!).

I read he really took some pokes at the stars. What could possibly be wrong with that - they need more of it. Once of those guys the Caesars had, whispering in their ears that they're not that great.

Disclaimer: I did not watch the show myself, so the tone and full context are lost on me, and I have to rely on what's written here.

That said, I can't find much fault in what he said. RDJ is a drug user. His adolescent (and adult) fans would do well to remember that. Scientology is bullshit. It's more than a little creepy that Heff' has married someone younger than me. Maybe I'm a little sensetive, but the gay jab at Carrey and McGregor might have been wide of the mark, and missed a chance to nail Carrey for marrying that anti-vaccine whackjob Jenny McCarthy.

At the end of it all, though, they're celebrities celebrating themselves, and if they can't take a little heat, they should get out of the kitchen.

+1. I'm so disinterested in the entertainment industry, I can't bring myself to watch a show where they all pat themselves on the back for a job well bungled. If Ricky Gervais wasn't funny, why'd they let him do it twice?

Edit: The Globes BTW lost me back when Pia Zadora won for a movie that hadn't been released yet. Can you say 'fixed' boys and girls?

I admit I laughed and so did my family. We are dealing with an industry who purposely release news about themselves to the tabloids (through one means or another) to keep themselves in the public eye. They create reality TV or appear on television to show off the wonderful homes they own and perhaps how hard they are having it being so rich.

Then Ricky Gervais is given the job of host, he tells a number of truths and they get upset. Please.

My friend stayed with a well-to-do in Hollywood. He mingled with stars and industry people. He said the amount of excess they have down there would make you sick. He also said that Hollywood people are like a different bred. When you arrive, you're like a new toy. They act polite and talk to you. After about a week they lose interest and move on to something else. He found the whole experience very weird.

I vote we officially replace Ricky Gervais with Russell Brand.. Same hilarious accent, with better material.

Agreed Curt. Ricky can be a bit nasty on purpose. Our Russ manages to make it look less personal(mostly).
