OTTAWA — Environment Canada has mothballed some of the world's most advanced equipment for dealing with oil spills, tracking submarines and monitoring Arctic sea ice.

    That's a shame. All those years of research and progress just wasting away in a hangar. Heaven forbid we own something ourselves instead of outsourcing the cheapest option.

    One would think that as the new Hercules J's are brought in, the older hercs could be used. We already have the spare parts. The initial cost of fitting the technology into the hercs would be expensive, but then we would have an up and running program with a renewable supply of aircraft. Why not? DND and Environment need to get together on this.

    Not surprising. The Conservatives aren't big on science and they are dismantling research, development and science anywhere they see it.
