Yet another Canadian retailer felled by a giant US corporation. Shame to see Zellers go... the Bay is next.

Zellers sucks and I'm glad to see them go. Welcome to Target - a store that will still provide jobs to Canadians and hopefully the better products and prices that Zellers does not.

Canadian retailers are their own worst enemy. They gouge and screw the consumer daily. They over price and have blow out sales of 10-20% get real! And they wonder why Canadians shop south of the border. Zellers still has last summers clothes on the racks ( which is mostly garbage).. and you are right The Bay is next.

The name of the store is "Target"??? Sounds like more right-wing hate rhetoric to me.

Is that $1.8B or $1.88. The latter sounds more Zeller-ish to me.

Got news for you. The HBC group of stores is ALREADY American owned.
Has been for a few years now.

'xactly. Just trading one American company for another. And Target in the US certainly has the deals.

Looks like I don't have to go to Great Falls to go to Target now.

Hint to Target, don't take on Zellers staff, they are half of Zellers' problem.

They can get good staff if they pay them properly.

Zellers was owned by HBC, or Hudson's Bay Company - which is owned by a New York based company. It's been gone for a while. The New York company bought he whole conglomerate - HBC, Zellers and Home Outfitters for a Billion a couple years ago. And Sold Zellers for 1.8B. Sounds like a smart move.

But if you pay them more than minimum, you don't make as much profit, so they cannot do that...
They can't raise prices unless they up quality either, so they are just stuck between a rock and a hard place!

I found out recently that Zellers here replaces their complete staff every once in a while... I guess that is at the moment that people start asking for a raise...

I'm sure that is on aspect of it, but doubt that is it all.

I'[m not sure, does Wal-Mart pay much better?

I won't shop Target any more than I shop Wal Mart (which is about twice a year. ). I'd rather pay a dollar or two more somewhere else then support another US chain.

They might make more profit if their employees felt any kind of incentive to sell more. Paying your employees is a good idea. Any sane businessperson knows that you have to spend money to make money.
