In a rather depressing piece of news, an internet-addicted woman from South Korea strangled her child in her house in Cheonan and then left the toddler’s corpse on the floor of the house for three days.

These stories seem to happen way too often...

Sadly it has become quite common for people to go way overboard with their internet activities. Next thing we'll know there will be stats for how many children die as a result of neglect by their internet obsessive parents.

Since when is 4 hours a marathon? You can barely pass a WoW dungeon in that amount of time.

Still, it seems as though there's a higher preponderance of these stories from Korea.

Stuff like this has probably gone on for a long time, it just that now you are starting to hear about it.

Yeah, there were times I would spend 8-9 hours with online gaming. But that was years ago. It took me some time to realize what a waste of life it is to play the things. It didn't help matters when I work graveyard shift for years.

My friend unfortunately is stil playing. He lost his house and his very sexy wife because he wanted to pay more attention to the game than to her. What an idiot. All he has now is a basement suite he pays rent on and his dog.

I really don't understand why Korea has pretty much all video game/computer related deaths.

Perhaps not as many murders though.

You don't think this was murder? 8O The kid didn't just up and die, he/she was MURDERED and left on the floor by mom. Execution would be too humane for this particular sorry excuse of a parent.

    'not as many'

Basically, I'm suggesting there may be more video game related murders in other places.

    This, obviously, was a murder.

Possibly, but we do tend to hear lots of weird video game/computer news from Korea.

Maybe Bart nailed it with his post.

Koreans live in a very crowded country and their living conditions tend to be 2nd world for the majority. They have few rights in their jobs, civil rights are transitory depending on their government, police corruption is better than much of Asia but still high, rape is not uncommon, and young people have few fantasies about owning a home. At best, most Koreans aspire to 'owning' a 900sf apartment.

The Koreans who really figure it out get out of Korea and move to the USA or Canada.
