I find it hard to imagine how Quebec can object to rep by pop, without looking like complete douches.

Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. But by all means ignore the fact that there are more overrepresented parts of the country than just Quebec.

Given the obvious lack of talent, ability and integrity shown by 90% of our politicians, I don't think they should be increasing the number of MP's, they should be decreasing them................... drastically.

Since bureacrats run the country, having fewer snouts at the trough shouldn't present a problem, although representation still shouldn't be based on who can bitch the most.

I thought this was how the westminster parliamentary system was suppose to work higher population growth more seats.

Why are we fucking around with this ? Is it because it would upset the Bloc's balance of power in Parliament ? If Québec had a population boom and we didn't I can guarantee you the Bloc wouldn't give a ratt's ass about the rest of us and would demand more seats hell or high water.

    Pussies.

making a vote in Greater Toronto worth less than half the value of a vote in Winnipeg.

What's the problem, we're known for being frugal.

The rationale for shelving this is pretty stupid if you ask me.

Parties are worried about losing seats in Quebec, yet there would have been 30 new seats mostly would have gone to the Conservatives and Liberals, so who cares? So what if Harper loses his 10 seats in Quebec, he would have probably gotten all five in Alberta, several in BC and several more in Ontario, making it even more likely that his party got a majority. Same goes for the Liberals.

Stupid pandering to a province that overwhelmingly votes BQ is a waste of time IMHO.

    WTF?

Conservatives confirm they will go ahead with legislation to add more seats in Parliament
"That suggestion takes us totally by surprise. There have been no discussions among House leaders or among anybody else that we can think of about that matter," deputy Liberal leader Ralph Goodale said. The Liberals would welcome moving the bill to the committee stage so witnesses can present arguments for and against it, Goodale said.

The NDP also denied having any discussions about sinking the bill and in fact, said it's about time the government brought it forward for debate.

"The Conservatives have sat on that. They did their photo ops, they went out and pretended they were going to do something about it," NDP MP Joe Comartin said Friday. "We need a national debate on this, the bill should be brought forward."
