Former Liberal leader Stephane Dion questioned Wednesday why Canadian Armed Forces need to train Afghan military to fight the Taliban, when the Afghans were strong enough to defeat the forces of the Soviet Union in the 1980s.

And it's not the 1980s anymore, and Afghanistan didn't have a defacto military for several years after the Taliban took control.

I'm not a fan of little D, but he might actually have a point.

We keep trying to transform vastly different people into our image. We are just empowering corruption. Karzai is so corrupt, empowering him and his cronies is recipe for long term disaster. This guy who takes suitcases full of cash from Iran is the west's best hope for stable leadership from Afghanistan?

Bring our troops AND consultants home, we have no business there.
