3 out of 4 balanced budgets, defended the seal industry, corrected the ineptitude of the cancer-testing, called Harper on breaking his promises and to top it all off he fixed Joey Smallwoods mistake at Churchill transforming the Rock from a have not to a have province. The out of country surgery caused ruffles but the services he required were not there.
I think his popularity is somewhere around 80% as I recall.
Which makes it a bit unusual. He said he was gonna do another term a few months ago.
Something is amiss, maybe it's his health? He still hasn't 'fixed' Joey's fuck-up with the hydro contract. That has a few more years to run as it was a 70 year deal. It actually gets worse for the last 20 years, that was the driving factor for this hydro-line from NFLD to NS and NB.
All he's done there is make a new Churchill with Nova Scotia instead of Quebec is all. Now at least they have options whereas before it was going strait to Quebec. As to his health he says he is fine. He very well could be hiding something but his record still speaks for him and I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt considering how much he has done in such a short time.
On Churchill Falls; The contract where NFLD sells hydro to Quebec for a pittance that they resell at great profit stands until 2041.
"In a speech in 1996, former Newfoundland premier Brian Tobin estimated that Hydro-Quebec received windfall profits of $1.4 million a day from redistributing Churchill Falls power. He said Newfoundland and Labrador, the resource owner, received only $45,000 a day."
"EyeBrock" said Bit of a shocker, especially with all this hydro line stuff on the go. Somebody is not telling us something.
Especially since there are elections next year. Why not wait a year? This doesn't make any sense. At least, the story doesn't. Maybe his reasons do, but as far as the story goes...
Looking back on it I can see why he stepped down now. He has done what he set out to do and in his own neck of the woods is hugely popular however outside of the Rock his leadership is seen as toxic. So Danny was a one off in that regard and I think he was needed in order to do what he set out to do but once that is done it was smart for him to pack it in and usher in a new leader, one that will not knock heads so much with the rest of Canada while still making the best for Newfoundlanders.

This new line is for another project, The Lower Churchill Falls.

That being said, wonder if the Liberals are courting him. That might be enough to put an L up on my profile... maybe.
I guess they didn't like to get served their own medicine.
90% approval. Wonder if he feels like moving to the other rock.

Mmmmm. Either way really. Tory or Lib, I think he would get my vote.
You didn't have to like him but, you did have to respect him.

I really like Danny. He was a good sword in harper's side.
