MONTREAL - Quebec independantistes call it the culmination of a longstanding dream: the creation of a separate hockey team. Quebec has been given the go-ahead to assemble its own team for an international tournament where it will host at least three count

What a fucking crock. Hockey Canada foots the bill so sepratists can make a political statement. Does Quebec have a "national anthem"? I am sure they won't be playing Oh Canada after any of their victories. I like how Tremblay mentions high end talent (other than that jerk stain Lapierre) as playing for the team, incidentally they all have played for Canada previously, love to see them say G.F.Y. Funny no mention of "Italian Canadian" Luongo, despite being born in the province, guess he does not fit the stereo-typical Franco/sepratist mold.

Actually, bit funny how the Quebec media has not picked up on this yet. At least, have not heard anything on it. But soon enough, TVA is gonna have a field day on this, with their usual ''bias'' journalism.

As for the matter itself, I do not necessarily agree on this since for it seems to give a reason for the PQ and ''seperatists'' to cheer about. Quebec, being a province within Canada, should play for Team Canada.

Ahh Pen, Luongo aint a pure laine, he's the same as a maudit anglias.

This is just a bad idea all around the table.

I really hope the NHLers will say "Fuck this, I play for Canada or I don't play".

Or have every province pony up a team.

ANYTHING THAT MAKES THE PQ HAPPY IS A BAD IDEA....

How long do you think this will last once Quebec realises that they're 5th and down is about the the best they're doing in international tournaments?

This goes exactly in favour of Duceppe and the Bloc Quebecois. After all, they have lobbied for this all along. Although it should not be surprising, they are going to use this to their advantage and turn this into political silliness and irrelevance.

Quebec vs ROC is what we need.

That would be the worst possible scenario imo.

We already have enough bitching about this in the country, just imagine
what a Quebec vs ROC hockey game would bring out.
Or a Quebec vs ROC final.

I would be able to smell the shit slinging over here.

Yes Scotland has an international football team.
    And they suck.
So does Wales and N. Ireland.
And included England, the perpetual choker.

United, they could put out a decent international team, but they are
so caught up in their own bullshit, they all go nowhere.

They have for rugby as well, but only because they need
all the teams they can to make 6 teams world wide. :)

And it all plays into the hands of the PQ.

Hockey Canada has authorized the creation of Team Quebec to host France, Italy and Switzerland in the proposed Quebec Cup next August in the provincial capital.

Two bit teams playing for a third rate trophy. NHLers aren't going to sign up for this. Wake me when it's something important.

I think its only fair to allow a Quebec first nations team to play as well.
