A handful of local businesses are making an attempt to save the Edmonton Indy. It was just a week ago that the city confirmed the race would no longer be a part of Edmonton's summer events.
The city should have just coughed up the additional $3 million IMHO...after all it was their decision to start closing the airport that caused this mess.

Don't even get me started. City Council ignored two referendums to keep the airport open. Then they closed the west runway that was upgraded to handle the (CART) Indy race leaving only the east un-upgraded runway for the Indy. And this was all finalized in secret, during the election. They dropped the grandstands on the North side of the runways this year because they would cause the runway to be shut down while the stands were being built and taken down, then they trumpet the line that attendance at Indy was down this year (a figure Indy does not release).
I'm convinced City Council is corrupt, and they specifically closed the West runway (after committing to 5 more years of racing this summer) because that would kill the Indy - the only thing people across the city could get behind keeping the airport open. It was getting n the way of the kickbacks they were going to get from developers and investment incomes on property that hasn't been put up for sale yet.
I hope some place like O'Hanlon Paving offers to do the paving in return for sponsorship rights. Let's see the sour look on Councillor Krushell's face then.
I always get the crappy seats at Indy anyhow. Hot rubber in my face, chunks of carbon fibre in my hair. . . you ever get splashed by the water and crud that lives in a tire barrier?
