That's the problem with a lot of anti-racists. They like to make it about white vs the rest, and only whites can be racist. And that's where they're going to lose the goodwill of a lot of white people, who aren't racist at all but also aren't going to buy into some sort of white guilt.

I've been turned down for job opportunities many times for being white and/or male, so I'm not buying it.

We get the picture, we did bad once upon a time and now clearly any and all issues are our fault, after all only whites are capable of racism. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that white guys also have trouble finding places to live at all.

That's just pure racism right there. White people are supposed to voluntarily accept 2nd class citizenship is what this douchbag is proposing.

Aboriginals face this on a daily basis, not just once in a while.

Let's be honest here, all people are capable of overt (and covert) racism, but since whites form the majority, and we are all sitting on conquered land that they took by force, the lens is on them.

If it was the Chinese who were did the conquering, the lens would be pointed at them.

White privilege certainly exists; I work in a business where I see it every day, the good old boys club isn't getting any darker. Instead what we are seeing is the creation of multiple clubs with multiple ethnicities.

We now have Chinese, Brown, and Black people who network only through themselves.

I know people will always drum, "regardless what colour you are, you should be hired based on merit, not how you look". That's idealistic bullshit, we constantly hire incompetent, and semi competent people just because they look like us and can talk like us. We have thousands of years of documented history of nepotism and cronyism in every region of the world. Everything is done through networking, back dealing and connections, scraps are left for the rest.

The best jobs at my company are signed, sealed and delivered even before a job posting goes out. The posting is done to simply fulfill government requirements. It's up for a week, taken off and applications deleted; we already had a guy connected. The real postings are for low level clerks, call centres, customer service, and admin and so on.

People who don't have deep connections in this country will be frozen out, destined to be slightly poorer than the rest no matter how hard they work (Mexican cherry pickers work hard, they're still poor).

Ultimately, since whites have established Canada, and maintained a position of legislative superiority over non whites (and women) until the 1950s, it seems like the whiteness has become a privilege. This is only partially the case. Here in Toronto, many whites are frozen out of the good job opportunities because of lack of connections along with other perceived "undesirables". Asians in Vancouver also freeze many whites out in the cold.

Canada's immigration policy of bringing the best and brightest (university grads too) has severely destroyed the ability of white privilege to function properly as it still does in the much of the USA.

I don’t think we need these sorts of divisive campaigns in the country. Most immigrants who come here are smart, very smart, (I’m not talking about refugees, family class reunifications, just skilled). They can find their own feet within a few years. And many have. Where I live I see Kenyans, Nigerians and Indians driving Lamborghinis and Ferraris, they’ve already got elite classes in Canada, and it hasn’t even been a generation yet!!!

With immigration, Canada’s white privilege will be gone within a generation without any form of intervention. Since natives are now the fastest growing group in Canada (almost on par with immigration), their integration should be the primary focus. Not white privilege.

And most natives will call you racist for suggesting they integrate. How do you integrate a people that get special mention in the charter of rights? Is that not privilege. How will we ever move beyond that? Natives want us to uphold all the special deals they get under treaties and yet also be given the same rights as any other citizen - ie citizenship plus. They don't want human rights legislation to apply to reserves, but demand equal rights in the rest of Canada. They want to act as sovereign nations, but still retain full Canadian citizenship. How we will ever move to integration from that mess is beyond me.

Yeah, Canada has the same exact embargo as the USA and the rest of the world...oh wait!

If Nigeria tomorrow decided to annex all of West Africa for itself, it would be the same situation, nobody would do a thing, and we'd keep trading with them. Why?

The simple answer is .......... We don't.

Successive Canadian Governments have created a new form of apathied, where whites have, through government legislation, become second class citizens in their own country and certain minorities have been given rights and priviledges in excess of what would constitute all logic in an attempt to assuage certain peoples guilt.

So until we legislate everyone in Canada equal, race creed or colour notwithstanding, which would piss off alot of bleeding hearts, there is no benefit for the natives to give up their prefered #1 citizen status and all the perks that come with it.

The first step should be the implementation of the Charter on Reserves. If they don't implement it, no more federal monies. My guess is it'd be in effect pretty damn quick.

The Charter on the reserve won't help shit anyway. I mean take a look at what the Charter has caused between groups of white ppl, ie English and French.
And if the French have figured out how to abuse the "notwhithstanding" clause, how long do you figure it'll take before Native and immigrant groups figure it out?
The Charter is a horribly flawed document.
