    Let them eat cake...

“It's within the law,” Chow snapped when asked why they both bill for accommodation while in Ottawa, later explaining they split the rent, about $12,000 each, depending on how much time they spend in Ottawa.

“What about them? Are you going to look at their expenses?” Chow said.

Such good socialists...they 're like wealthy catholic clergy, and no I don't buy that 'we're holding it in trust for the people' bullshit. The Pope and all his cardinals are destined for the hell they preach about, because they live like princes while parishoners starve. This is the same lie that Smilin Jack and his Chow live.

Can't stand Chow - hypocritical shrill. It's easy advocating for the poor, when you're rich. I've got some time for Jack - at least he's a party leader - but his wife, and this stems back to the time these idiots were in the Toronto co-op, needs to take her self-righteous, cause-head nonsense and park it.

It sounds to me that all MPs are getting way too much, not just the ever-annoying Chow and Layton.

Recently released House of Commons records show that 304 MPs received $142,606,961.87 in 2009-10 for various expenses related to living and working in Ottawa.

I understand the need to pay for housing and even some food costs for them, but $530,000 to run a constituency office?

How much does it cost to rent a 2000 sq ft office and hire an assistant or two cost? It shouldn't be more than $200,000 annually IMHO. And if Chow and Layton are renting a $2000 a month condo, than that's another $12,000 (they split the costs), and even if they eat really well and spend $2000 a month on food (more than my family of four does), that's another $24,000. and say another $30,000 for utilities and other stuff ($2500/month).

That's about $270,000 total. So where the hell is the other $250,000 or so going?

Sounds to me like the pigs are deep in the trough...

Maybe it's time to run for MP!

The $1.6 million includes their office staff. You want the MPs to have a staff, so that the public can contact the government. Government doesn't come cheap these days, I don't really think you can get out of it.

I just find it funny that the dyed-in-the-wool Toronto socialists 'have' to eat in Ottawa's rather expensive restaurants every night. No kitchen in that expensive apartment ‘just steps’ to Parliament?

They are no different than the rest. Ottawa’s gravy train should be stopped too.

Oh, Jack Layton is this professional politician more than a socialist. I think he's pretty isolated from work-a-day-grunts-with-children. That's the way it is in Ottawa.

Which makes him and Olivia vulnerable when they pretend to be caring socialists.

They are in the trough as much as any Tory or Lib and it's pretty obvious.

The only wool they have is the ones they are trying to pull over our eyes. :)

    More typical dipper fail.

All that money for a pair of idiots that I wouldn't trust to run a two-hole shithouse. Better than 649 eh?

These two are part of the Toronto 'elite'. They sit on high and judge us all and all the time they are claiming every expense they can.

    Fur coat socialists.

Someone told me that Olivia and Jack used to live in public housing in Kitchener.
Anyone know if that is true?

I thought it was Toronto Ken, subsidised housing in the core.
