Britain will lose thousands of troops, reduce its ability to fight complex missions like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and delay a program to upgrade its nuclear defences, Prime Minister David Cameron announced Tuesday.

We don't need an aircraft carrier, and certainly not an old VTOL like the UK uses (nevermind our dubious history with 2nd hand British equipment). Let India buy it and run it into the ground.

Well at least Cameron is starting to cut that superbloated Labor overdose.

Shame but not surprising for these cuts.

And no DD, we dont have a carrier.

We had an aircraft carrier a long while back. The Majestic-class HMCS Bonaventure (CVL-22) served us from 1957-1970 before being decommissioned.

    We'll never forget you, Bonnie.

Given that Obama wants to cut the US Navy from eleven carriers to four it would be prudent of Canada to start building some carriers. Depending on the USA just isn't going to be in Canada's future.

    Discount for two ? ;)

We couldn't man and operate one Nimitz class carrier, nevermind two. Frankly, I don't see the need for Canada to have them anyways.

Bodies we can arrange, shipyards not.

And since we cant simply depend on the US for theirs, for the next while at least....

You need aircraft to own a carrier and that's not something Canada has plenty of. Well maybe if harper actually buys those 65 jets but it's looking like he won't.

Well I think its a good thing not to waste money on shit like that. Money that can be used elsewhere for better things.

I agree, but not all taxpayers do. Like I said, Canada does not really have a need for a carrier. I'd far prefer a squadron of nuke subs (or AIP subs), more fighters, a couple dozen P-8As than I would an aircraft carrier.
