TORONTO - The federal Liberals are readying to rip apart the Harper government's mid-year economic report as they tout their own family care proposals.
The government is spending way to much money and the Liberals are proposing we spend more? Part of the reason many western nations are having such a problem with this recession is that we spend far to much money on social programs.
The Liberals will also question the government's priorities by analyzing the issue of planned tax cuts for large corporations. Goodale said large Canadian corporations need competitive rates but already enjoy one of the lowest tax rates in the G7.
"You make tax cuts when they are affordable, when they are sustainable and you don't have to borrow money in order to pay for them," he said.
As they highlight the Harper government spending on fighter jets, prisons and tax breaks for large corporations, the Liberals also plan to provide more details on their family-focused initiatives that will build on Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff's $1-billion family-care plan.
You take the 15 billion for prisons, spend 1 billion on family care where it will actually make a difference instead.. You haven't increased spending at all.

Whaaaaat? Did you follow the last economic meltdown in the US? I'll give you a hint: It had bugger all to do with spending on social programs.

We can spend it on social programs, or we can spend way more on cops, prisons, healthcare, insurance etc, etc. But somehow that never seems to bother people. Just visions of those millions of welfare bums, which they have dancing in their heads, since they don't exist in reality. WTF is the attraction of wanting to create a dog eat dog society? Let's all get guns and return to the wild west, yeeeeehaw.
"ASLplease" said we are still wasting money on a duckgun registry, and its the liberals fault
Great idea, if we take out that whopping sum of $4 million that the registry costs us, this year deficit will only be $55.596 billion instead of $55.6 billion ($55.588 if you believe it costs us $12 million annually)!
I hope you aren't an accountant by trade!
Methinks the deficit has FAR, FAR more to do with the 5.6 billion spent on the HST and the $20 billion or so in tax cuts to corporations, than the measly little $4-12 million spent annually on the LGR. Give it up already...
the 2003 liberal estimate for making the gun registry acurate was 'a billion dollars or more'. We are only spending $4 million thanks to the Conservatives.
plus consider that the original 1 billion was spent after a liberal estimate of $2 million, I shudder to think what a 'Liberal 1 billion or more" is going to cost us.
The astronomical conservative deficits are not the gun registry fault. The conservative spent like crazy in a 'stimulus program' while he should have cut its spending and taxes. That's the reason.
The problem is that with the liberals, it would have been the same thing or worse. So we are screwed.

Except for the fact that during the last recession the Liberals were able to eliminate the record deficit inherited from the previous Conservative government by cutting spending and taxes.

Did I say otherwise ? I'm not always in a Liberals vs. Conservatives debate like you seem to be in. There was also the recession of '90 we were in.

The 'cost' lie is the one you and the Conservatives persist in bringing into the conversation every time the LGR comes up.
Wow, we spent a billion on it in 2003! Where was Harper in 2003? Demanding our troops fight in Iraq as part of the Official Opposition if my memory serves me correctly.
What year is it again? Oh yeah, 2010! The set-up costs were high (just like as the article notes, so were the set-up costs for the HST). However, annually, the LGR costs between $4-12 million (depending on the source you trust - the RCMP report said it was about $4 million). Either way, the LGR operational costs are a minuscule fraction of the entire federal budget (somewhere in the ballpark of $200 BILLION or so).
You rationale for killing the LGR is the same as buying a brand new car for $30,000 and then, because oil changes cost $50, you give it away and buy a new car.
THE MONEY WAS SPENT YEARS AGO AND CANCELLING THE LGR WILL NOT RECOVER ANY OF THE $1 BILLION IS SET-UP COSTS. GET IT?
Honestly, I don't think you ever will 'get it', but sometimes shouting at dumbass like you just makes me feel better!
Maybe you should go start another bunch of threads on how; the LGR labels you a criminal, how it is against your constitutional rights, how criminals don't register guns, whatever. Either way I won't bother posting in any more of your inane gun rant threads any more because you are just a broken record.
wow, you misread my post and erupted, I didnt say 1 billion in 2003, I said in 2003, the estimate to reach a specific milestone ie 'acurate' would cost another 1 billion LIBERAL dollars, so you better multiply that by 1000 to get a real number.
