A new immigration policy is denying American war resisters due process, human rights advocates say, and they are calling on the government to rescind it.
Criminals are universally refused entry, this should be no exception. Amnesty International doesn't pay my taxes, nor do they protect my country. Butt the hell out!
"Guy_Fawkes" said If deserting the US army is a crime in Canada then I'm most probably wrong.
Its not a crime here, but Canada will extradite criminals to the US. Since desertion is illegal in the US we will/should send them back.
When in that case OK then. Once a extradition request is made then ship'em out. Although on personal moral gounds I don't think its right, but thats just my opinion.
I know all the military boys here will disagree and thats there opinion
I think the army should let you break that contract. But, it should contain clauses about what you owe the army if you do. Ie financial more than jail time. The forces are straddling two fences where on the one had it's more like a job with volunteers doing it, yet retains the enforcement powers of a draft army after you sign up.

You can break it for certain reasons, but not wanting to go to war isn't one. Refusing a direct order will entail jail-time and a dishonourable discharge.
These guys just ran away because they have no principles and are cowards.
Alright I'll bite. Let pitch in a hypothetical situation.
Your a military man, lets say Canada went to war with the UK for some petty reason and you were deployed and ordered to destroy your own village and kill civillians , people who you know for a fact have nothing to do with this and totally innocent.
Would you ?
And no, that would never happen and Canada would never go to war with britain etc etc, remember in the hypothetical everything can and will happen. And I dunno if it was you but somebody recently did just say the military does "war game" such far out scenarios
Ya, each case should be automatically refused, along with immediate deportation.
If that is the case then why is not Canada in Iraq then ?
Why are legitimate refugees allowed in as most are "criminals" in the countries they are fleeing from.
These people have more of legitimate case than the recent Tamils
They are deserters, nothing more.

It certainly isn't a good reason to grant them refugee status. We have discussed this very issue ad -nauseam DD. Try a search on the forum.

Anybody who volunteers for the military has freely entered into a binding contract to serve his or her country.
There are options other than running away like a coward if you can't fulfill that contract.
Luckily, 99.9% of the guys who sign up do their duty.

So again, would you ?
Talk about a tight spot eh ?
without having to worry about someone killing the family back home.
You boys should try it once in a while.
Canadian soldiers are free to refuse illegal orders, DD,
