I certainly found that to be true when I was talking to German students in Sweden back when I was there in 2000-2001... they were amazed at how proud I was of both my Canadian and Scottish roots (especially when they saw me in my kilt...).
After living in the Czech Rep and Germany for the last 6 years I can say that they are beginning to (be able to) display more pride openly, due in part to the World Cup being held in Germany 4 years ago and the resulting flag-waving patriotism lessening some of the stigma of the national flag being flown from homes... Good to see in my opinion.
Also, when I studied Scots Gaelic in the US, the teacher asked where I had learned to pronounce the words so well, and I honestly told him it came from studying German, haha.
I think some good positive German nationalism would be of great benefit, and not just for Germany either. A less docile German presence on the world stage would add a new voice with some fresh ideas that might be able to nudge the international community towards a better way of thinking.

There is a lot positive from German Nationalism. I was always very impressed that Germany is as open as they are to about their WW II history. They acknolege it and attempt to make amends where they can.
The Japanese aren't quite that willing to do the same.
I don't think the German Character or a resurgence of positive German Nationalism is not unheathy at all.
