I think it comes down to instinct, most men won't hit a woman as generally he is stronger and feels the need to protect her and women are less willing to start a fight they know they would lose.

I worked with Gay people and got friendly enough where I could ask them certain questions. One of them was about jealosy and domestic Violence.
My thinking was though these folks would be less jealous and certainly Not violent. They corrected me. Theye get more jealous amd they can be much
more violent to their significant other.
