As many as 50 First Nations chiefs from across the country are gathering in Ottawa this week to urge the federal government to close what they say is a "massive gap" in children's education.

Go to my daughters school here in Quebec. As the only English school around, it is a shit hole compared to every french school around. It's location is right near some industial plants, has no swings, looks and feels like crap on the interior and exterior. Teachers...well not the cream of the crop! This is the worst school I've been in. If I had the money, my kids would not go to this school. But, their getting some type of an education (along with being given extra homework by my wife and I).

That's right. All of the problems with education could be resolved if we only had enough funding.

Here's a novel suggestion - tax reserve property and pay for schools that way - you know like the white man does. (And the yellow, brown and black man as well. Women too.)

And what has happened to all that gaming revenue the on reserve casinos have brought in? Oh right, God forbid they spend any of their own earned money on something like this when they can get another government handout to pay instead.

To be fair, most reserves don't have casinos. Many are stuck in the hinterland with not much of anything as far as economic opportunity goes. But, the answer isn't just to fund them as if they'r living middle class lives in a big city. If the reserved isn't economically viable, by the natives own effort, then it may be time to move. 'Course the same can be said about most of Atlantic Canada. But at least they do send their young men forth to work in the oilfields and such.

Natives are never going to be taken seriously by the rest of Canada when all they appear to do is break our laws with impunity and demand more cash for zero loyalty.

All these special deals for natives are just white guilt and racism - as in patronization - the poor dears can't do for themselves. Maybe if their temper tantrums get bad enough, Canada will at some point say enough, but for the moment I don't see it happening.
