A top U.S. geographer says Canada will emerge as a major world power within 40 years as part of a climate-driven transformation of global trade, agriculture and geopolitics highlighted by the rise of the "Northern Rim" nations.

Richard Comely estimated we would be a world power by 1993, sadly he didnt take into account the fact we get walked on lol

    Finally the big time.

I'd love to see that but they'd have to come up with an age reversing drug pretty quick.

I've see geography professors in television interviews arque that Canada should double it's immigration. Geography professors will point to a map, the size of the country, and argue it could get much more densely populated. The problem that there's been unemployment for decades completely escapes them when lecturing on the size of Canada, the total square miles. At this time the jobs creation in the country is not actually that robust, the jobs being created are not actually average on average and growing will produce a less prosperous and secure Canada.

if that is the case bruce, then you ought to stop relying on others to create a job for you.

That's true. To be a major power we'll have to out compete the EU, the USA, Japan and all the emerging nations such as China in the next 40 years. We'll have to develop high tech sectors that beat the global competators. To a geography professor this is no problem.

Laurier "the 20th century belongs to Canada." So only 150 years late or just another prediction pulled out of someone's ass? Who wants to be a world power? We'd doubtless become as big assholes as the US is.

    good one R=UP Strat

Well, I think its another bunch of BS. We dont have the population or economic power
or the national cohesion to get things together, and will sell off what
we have for cheap prices instead of developing it ourselves.. just like we do now.

    Bit of a shame, really.
