Defence Minister Peter MacKay has joined the growing chorus of those in opposition to a plan by a firebrand Florida preacher to burn copies of the Qur'an on Sept. 11.
Sure it's wrong. But, Muslims across the world wish and pray on a daily basis for the destruction of everyone who doesn't believe in their genie. I'll never forget that 9/11 happened in the name of their religion. This overwhelming condemnation of this book-burning is nothing more than trying to appease the Muslims....again. Didn't Khadafi just say to the press that Islam should be the religion of all Europe? Where were the Muslim leaders then? Oh...I see, they only cry foul when its something they disagree with. Hmm...

Extremists praying is not the same as extremists burning the holy book of an entire religion.
Meh really this should not get so much freaking attention, if some small village in Syria wanted to burn the bible on they day the US invaded Iraq no one would care because; A) No one would hear about it,
B) No one would give a shit about what some statement a backward religious figure is making.
"BartSimpson" said The koran is Canada's new holy book, eh?
The minister is just playing it up so he can try and get the PC more votes, if the cons look less xenophobic they might get some of the visible minority votes.
He also gave similarly stupid remark about the new CoD game coming out where you can play as the taliban.
Burning the koran is a silly thing to do, but it pales compared to bombing churchs and murdering christians. Two things the media barely acknowleged. I hope none of our soldiers get harmed because of this.
"andyt" said The koran is Canada's new holy book, eh?
So if McKay condemned the burning of the bible, you would say: "The bible is Canada's new holy book, eh?" eh?
I'm not the one who said it was insulting to Canadians. I seriously doubt that the Hindus or the Haida in Vancouver feel insulted that some jerkwit in Florida is burning a koran. McKay is a tad overboard with that comment of his.
"andyt" said It's insulting to Canadians because some of our citizens are Muslims, and even many non-Muslims feel insulted by this intolerance.
But, sticks and stones - we should just be ignoring this.
Perhaps Canada could prosecute the guy for hate speech. Really, I'm figuring it's just a matter of time before Canada prosecutes a US citizen for their actions in the USA, may as well be this guy.

Extremists praying is not the same as extremists burning the holy book of an entire religion. And extremists burning a holy book isn't the same as extremists flying airliners into buildings in the name of their religion, so what's yer point? I don't agree with this crap in Florida either but unlike flying airliners into buildings, burning books IS protected under the US Constitution as freedom of speech/expression.
Oh, and just in case these headlines were missed over the years:
Again, these don't justify the "good pastor's" actions in Florida but how come we heard SOOO little of these events but the media is all over this guy?

The guy who prosectued Marc Emery is now retired and speaking out that the war on drugs is a failure. Hypocrite.
