Two families in northern Nova Scotia claim that wild animals, possibly cougars, attacked their horses this week. The claims challenge the government's official position that cougars do not exist in the province

The claims challenge the government's official position that cougars do not exist in the province.

    Oh........kay.

So I guess that these Non exhistant cougars must be related to the Non exhistant rats in Alberta.

Everything I learned about Cougars I learned about from "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" and Charlie the Lonesome Cougar. But even with that little and faded memory I do recall that they do move around quite abit and unlike silly politicians they aren't known for respecting provincial boundries.

I've only ever seen two attacks on horses by cougars out here on the island, and both times the gashes were deep (multiple layers of stitches deep) and obviously claw/bite marks. These look nothing like a cougar attack I've seen.

I thought cougars only went after well hung stallions.

Cougars live in the western mountains and foothills which is why another name for them is Mountain Lion, pumas and panthers in south america are also the same species, IF there were by some chance cougars in NS then there would be evidence of their presence, those marks were not caused by a cougar, they would be much deeper and probably that horse would be dead if a cougar jumped on its back and got at it's neck, Cougars do not hunt in groups either unless it is a mother and youngster, they are solitary animals.
