EA doesn't know what they are talking about, that whole other games allow players to be either nazi's or allied. Like in Call of Duty 2, etc. However that conflict is over 60 years old, the afghanistan conflict is still fresh in peoples minds as it's still a ongoing war.

Maybe 60 years from now it would be cool to make a game where players play the Taliban but not today.

i don't really know what to make of this situation, at first i thought, what is EA thinking....as i was strafing the shit out of Pearl Harbour in my zero fighter in Battlestations Pacific. Then the absurdity of this whole situation hit me, this is a game, nothing more nothing less, it is not a political statement, it is not a slap in the face of the vets, its just a game. and really, who hasn't in their own gaming world pegged every character with a terrorist designation or a face scarf a taliban fighter? now that EA games are coming out and calling them taliban, it's wrong?

settle down people, if you object to it, don't buy the game, and if you must buy the game because lets face it, it is fun as all hell, don't be a taliban....and enjoy ripping them apart in the comfort of your own home.

It's no different than playing the bad guys in any of the other war games out there. AS for being objectionable to "play" some one who is killing our own troops, is it any less objectionable to play a gang banger killing cops or innocent bystanders in games like the GRand Theft Auto series??

I agree with HM people need to chill out, so what if someone wants to play a taliban character, its not like they are going to go out and emulate that mind set.
"Canadian forces, our allies, aid workers and innocent Afghans are being shot at and sometimes killed by the Taliban. This is reality. I find it wrong to have anyone, children in particular, playing the role of the Taliban," MacKay said in a statement.
I think MacKay should have stayed out of this one.

It's just a game and I've no doubt that EA appreciates all the free advertising.

Yea, I don't see a problem. It's not like anyone is going to suddenly think that the Taliban are good at fighting just because you can play them in a video game ;).. Do you get to stone women?

If EA makes it so that a user can play as a Canadian soldier and blow some Taliban heads off, then make it, and I'll buy a copy for PS3. But to play as the Taliban killing Allied troops? That's a bullshit idea. Those nerds at EA would shit their pants if they saw a real Taliban douche coming straight for THEM.

Fuck EA anyways. It's bad enough they lost the NASCAR licence and aren't making anymore NASCAR games. '09 was the last one.

I'm sure there's a mod out there to change the uniforms to CF.

Made up controversy, like sex in mass effect. Must be a slow news day.

Don't worry. If this game is like it's predecessors from EA, it'll be so buggy that you'll have to wait for the 23 patch before you can actually play it.

And by that time we'll have been out of Afghanistan for 10 years.

But in the spirit of reality, EA games should load up and move to Kabul. The rent would be cheaper and the programers would get a much better perspective about the terrain buildings climate and combatants they're trying to create.
