A city traffic camera recorded a fatal crash while it happened Friday morning. Traffic officers who had the difficult job of watching the video saw something else they found disturbing. No one stopped.
@Jan Who cares if the operator was rude!!?? Its not like they work at the f'n Gap. They deal with idiots and false alarms all day. They want the info to be clear, fast and accurate. Way to think about your feelings.
Oh AJ (in the comments)... If you cannot pick up your bike when it drops, you are riding the wrong bike. And the fact that you are a girl is so not important. Do you expect a man to help you out because you a. ride the wrong bike, and 2. can't keep it up straight?
Girl, I think it is time you get your bra out of the fire and make a sandwich for your man.
I was with a driver once who refused to stop at the scene of an bad accident. She was worried because we had a few beers and thought we'd get in trouble. The urge to help was so strong I pulled the keys out of the ignition and made sure people were ok. One women in the end was in serious condition I never found out what happen to her.
Turned out the cops primary concern was the victims and whether we saw the accident happen.
I was pretty pissed at her for refusing to stop. Says alot about a persons character.
1) This could have happened in any major city or town in Canada. And it does also happen in any major city and town in Canada. To suggest it's exclusively a 'Calgary attitude problem' is just the usual ignorant bashing from the usual ignorant anti-Calgary haters.
2) This particular accident happened on or very near to a high-speed ramp that enters onto another higher-speed road. I drive it myself at least several times per day. There's no shoulder there which makes it too dangerous for any non-emergency or City maintenance vehicle to stop along there. This didn't happen in the 'burbs in front of a strip mall or someone's house where it would have been much safer to stop.
3) If it was caught on camera that means the police or traffic monitoring people saw it happen live. They themselves should have been the ones to send an ambulance out immediately instead of waiting around for a motorist to call it in. And if the cameras were monitoring the location why were they fiddle-fucking around waiting for an untrained motorist to start administering first-aid?
Just my two cents. The police really screwed up on this one by going public with a silly 'oh, these cruel heartless people these days' rant. Especially if they didn't bother to make the rest of the facts of the incident and location known.
PS: Three summers ago I called the police so they could save a drunk who had wandered onto and passed out right on the C-Train tracks that ran outside my former condo. I did this because, even early in the morning, a train was eventually going to come along and run over the guy. So I don't need to hear from anyone who doesn't live here that no one in Calgary cares or looks out for other people. Anyone who says otherwise, well, GFY.

1) I agree with you it could and probably does happen in every city in the world. I don't think it's Calgary bashing, it's a Calgary news story by CTV Calgary.
2) I don't think the people monitoring the camera's were waiting for anyone to act, I'm sure they sent help immediately. They were obviously disgusted as anyone should be at the attitude of motorists ignoring someone dead or dying. Those people driving by didn't know if help was coming or if the victim was dead.
And we have the total opposite here almost to the extent of a great problem, even a small fender bender turns in a traffic jam. Although many are rubber neckers but a lot do want to and do stop and help. Most of the time shooed away by Emergency services if on the scene. Almost exactly one year ago I had the unfortunate experience of being one of the first one to arrive on high speed highway collision. One person died in that one
But the Emergency services are top notch here, average response time is four minutes andif it takes longer than 8 minutes then an investigation is carried out as why it took so long.
Although still does not excuse the bad level of driving and having the highest road death toll according to population size in the world
So let me get this straight. Mr. Cop is upset there wasn't a flood of 911 calls to report this? Ummm maybe cuz Calgarians are aware there's a camera there and assumed the cops already knew what was going on and were responding, instead of waiting for a good samaritan to confirm what the police could already see with their own eyes. Sounds like some sort of fucked up social experiment if you ask me.

Not only is that rather disturbing to read, but also the comments below the article.

Why do I even waste my fucking time here?
Like anywhere and everywhere, you gotta take the good with the bad.
