Well... start paying respects to the family, I think.

He left wearing running shoes, with no tent, sleeping bag, map or compass and little food. He was supposed to complete the hike by Aug. 15 but failed to show up.
Moron. Those mountains are rough back there.

But, it's been warm and dry. He should be able to go 5 days with little food. So if he's just lost, there's still a chance for him. If he fell off a cliff or met an unfriendly bear, maybe he's gone. But that friend of his is no friend at all.

I blame Disney for this - people think the backcountry is a playground.

The guy was 35 should know better. Even in the summer the wilderness will take you in a second if your not prepared or know what your doing. He's probably lost best case scenario. If he doesn't panic and stays put, makes himself visible has access to water he should be ok. But then the danger with trails is that animals used them as well. He could of suprised a bear.

I tip my canoe in a lake one time on a camping trip in the summer. I was suprised when I got to shore when hypothermia started setting in due to high winds. I had to strip down throw up some tarps build a fire. Delayed my return date by a day. That's why I always add a day to the date my family expected me back so they don't freak out.

On the local news tonight they mentioned that he was wanting to "get in touch with nature". Or something to that effect. Moron. The mountains look pretty but are more dangerous than alot of people realize. I know a couple of experienced hikers who did the local mountains, WITH APPROPRIATE GEAR, and still encountered a few problems. Fotunately they made it out on their own. This guy might not be so lucky. If he is fortunate enough to be found he should have to pay all costs associated with his rescue.
