GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Over a billion Muslims around the world began observing the holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday, with the dawn-to-dusk fast posing a particular challenge for the devout in the sweltering Middle East summer.

    So when do we start getting the local stampede numbers? It always happens during Ramadan, which is kinda sad.

    No for Lent you are supposed to give up something that you really like such as coffee, chocolate, ect, and to eat very little.

    There are quite a few Protestants who do the Lent thing too. My grandmother gave up red meat.

    The stampedes happen during the hajj or pilgrimage in Mecca. I would not make much hay of this as the secular left's "Love Parade" in Germany claimed some 20 lives in a stampede about a month ago. The point being that anytime you have a large crowd in too small a space you're tossing the dice with Death.
