The huge vehicle is as wide as two road lanes and 18 feet tall, carries more than 300 passengers per bus, and its electric motors run partly on solar power. The bus network could carry as many as 1,400 passengers at once.

What!!! subways aren't good enough anymore?

I can see drivers panicking trying to drive underneath or getting "run over" by these buses. Any accident involving these would probably cause a monster traffic jab by itself. 8O

Cool idea but probably quite a few years from realization, if ever.

thats sounds really good. it not only increases the safety but also decreases the environmental pollution of the country. cars usage can drastically be decreased by this idea. not only china but every country should implement this type of transport mechanism.

Building the buses and a 40km (25 mile) track for it would cost 500 million yuan (£46.5 million), about 10 per cent the cost of the equivalent distance of underground railway.

China's building subways faster than any of us can blink, but even they can't keep up with the demand. Beijing alone extended or built three new subway lines in a few years prior to the Olympics, and other major cities are also expanding them as quickly as possible, but even with 24/7 construction, it still takes a lot of time.

Frankly, this seems like an ingenious solution, although I'd be worried the first few times one of those monsters drove above me.

Might be cheaper to reduce the population.

They created a generation that was 50% smaller then the last. This is just people moving off the farm and to the city as people everywhere are doing.

I think its a great and pratical idea. It cheers me up to see innovation like this coming out of China instead of them just ripping off western technology.

    Good stuff!

People of asian descent have a bad habit of drawing themselves without eye folds and stressing over how to accurately replicate their skin tone.

This won't work. It suggests that the Chinese will drive cautiously around the new buses. Anyone who has lived with the Chinese knows that doesn't happen. This is a culture with a reactive mindset, except for a few rare instances, not a proactive mindset.

Cool idea, not sure if it would work though. I hope they build at least 1 to try it out though.

It'd be better if they tried it in another area with heavy traffic, but more capable drivers...like Japan or Germany.
