Well I'll be damned: Canadians drop more "f-bombs" and other curse words than folks in both the U.S. and Britain, a new study suggests.

Meh. In WW2 Canadian soldiers were known to swear a lot. THere's nothing fucking new here.

Benton Frasier was polite and reserved and I don't think he ever swore.

The first thing that caught my attention about this forum was the repeated
    use of the F word.
My granny Berthie always said that curses were something that the town drunk
    and town fool used.
The strange thing is that we know all types of people across USA and Canada.
None of them resort to swearing.
Yet some here that have all the answers must resort to cursing.
Thus giving the impression they have no other means of expressing themselves.
Only forum where women curse that we have witnessed.
So many words. Why not use them?

The Canadians I know deafinetly swear more often than the Americans I know.

Southerners (my experience is in Kentucky) are very polite compared to Western (where I'm from) Canadians.

Can't speak for either country as a whole, but I can compare the language in those regions.

Granny was correct. It sure doesn't take any education or smarts to curse.
If drunks and fools. Meaning poeple lacking a clear mind can curse is true.
As shown here any ole common place idiot can do it just fine.
    This is not an insult.
    Just an observation.

Thank ee. Us southern folks sure try.
Sometimes it becomes VERY difficult dealing with northerners. This forum is a great example.
    Again Thank Ya'lll

This doesn't seem right. I've never heard outrageous cussing even in a Canadian pub that compares with what I've heard from 8-18 year old kids in the US.

Reference guys swearing in WWII; generally when a guy gets shot it is alot easier for him to spit out the words fuck, shit, call the asshole that shot him a cock-sucking son-of-a-bitch, etc... Than it is for him to come up with some literary work of art, on the spot no less, to describe his situation while he's dealing with a fresh bullet hole/missing limb (depending on the size of the round).

And frankly, in a warzone, if your biggest concern is about offending others or being offended by others over a choice use of a few simple easy-to-use words, rather than being concerned about keeping yourself and that other person alive for another day, you really got your head screwed on wrong and need to get the fuck out of the army.

As for the population in general swearing more than Americans, I have personally found that, 9 times out of ten, the average Canadian swears more than the average American. And it's simple to explain really. Canada has been a nation that developed extracting primary resources and to a lesser extent developed the blue collar jobs to process those resources. America has always had a higher ratio of white collar and service workers than in Canada. And where in a white collar job being rude, impolite, and using foul language could cost you your job; out in the bush, in the mines, or in the factories, swearing and banter amongst the workers didn't pose such a risk. So over time Canadian society grew to be more accepting of certain rude, ignorant behaviours, such as frequent cursing and swearing.

    Thats my theory anyways.

It's because of Quebec. We make the average go 10 points up 8)

Even outside the Warzone, Londoners were quite aware of the Canadian reputation of being foul mouthed. It's part of our Heritage. You can't be Canadian if you don't Fucking swear.

    So fucking what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW the real reason for all the cussing, is that we're more honest than the other countries researched. If they'd have answered honestly we'd likely have come in a distant third.
