OTTAWA There were at least 22 children at the Orlans home daycare where a two-year-old boy drowned Wednesday morning.
They might have thought Jeremy Audet was in the small wading pool, not the big above-ground pool about six metres away, but the
Only turned around for FIVE minutes while the poor kid was near an above ground pool. Oh come on lady its not a kiddy pool with 8 inches of water! Five minutes it five minutes too long by a pool like this. Besides with people's tendency to try and make themselves look better when estimating I'd place money on the fact it was more than 5 mintues as well.
Plus just a pet peeve of of mine, it drives me nuts when, in this example, people say things like about the daycare house they were at, " I can't stress enough how careful she is...The kids don't have access to the pool." HELLO Einstein do yhou hear yourself speaking? A kid drowned, others were seen coming out of the yard in bathing suits, OBVIOUSLY the kids have access to the pool for CH#$ts sake.

Read the full article, they had a wading pool and read a little further and you will notice that it was a get together where the kids had access to the pool. You place all the blame on one person when there were several adults and many children present, none of which noticed or said anything about the kid getting into the above ground pool.
I'm not sure about Ontario, but here in Alberta only so many childern per caregiver is a regulation (I believe it's 5 kids/1 adult and less if there are babies) Also, the childs babysitter brought the kid to play at the day home, why then did she allow this child out of her sight for any ammount of time, when there are 22 kids running around you have to watch for those that are your responsability. Tragic and unnessesary, this death could have been avoided and a child could have had a full happy life, RIP.

I posted the article so I think I read it.
Oh so the 2 year old was supposed to be in the wading pool, which the article said was far away from the big pool. So what? IT actually makes it worse. The caregiver didn't notice the two year old leave the wading pool, walk across the yard, climb the stairs to the big pool and fall in. Thats even worse than knowing the kid was at the big pool and an instant later it fell in. Only one person was responsible for that kid and they failed as well the person owning the pool failed to make sure it was properly supervised. Bunch of kids playing in a pool and NO ONE watching the pool? Damn right there is a lot of blame to go around! This was 100% preventable. If you don't understand how much kids can get into in 5 minutes (I suspect it was longer) than you should not be watching kids.
Obviously the kids had access to the pool, tell that to the guy who was quoted as saying "the kids never have access to the pool." You sure you read the story?
As for what else I was going to reply, Choban covered it.
