"in the serious sexual assault"? So other rapes are just jokes?

That was the first thing that popped into my mind too.

    "Serious... as opposed to?"

The seriousness of an assault varies from bloody nose to permanent vegetative state.

Sexual assaults vary in a similar fashion.

Exactly. Sexual assault is everything from an unwanted pat on the butt to violent rape. Smart move, that, combining all that under one term.

Sexual assault is a general term. From Stats Canada, 39% of women experienced a sexual assault.

It can be forcing kiss, touching a breast and rape.

The appropriate term would be "aggravated sexual assault" instead of "serious sexual assault" IMHO. As the criminal code say.

Actually I meant between "Gross Sexual Assaults" (Legal Term) like your husband deciding you don't really have to be in the mood one night and two guys abducting a teen off the side of the road for some "hit her in the face with a tire iron till she stops complaining about being raped" action theres some you know kind of a sliding scale there.

Excellent point. Thank you for clearing that up.
